Report Card

Please remember that all 1st grade standards are marked to the end of the year benchmark. For your child to receive a 3, he/she must consistently meet the end of the year benchmark. Also some standards include many skills that take most of the year of the to teach. These standards are often marked with 2's due to the increased number and complexity of the skills. If your child has a 2 on the report card, it means that he/she is making sufficient progress towards the end of the year benchmark.

Our school wide Character Building Fundraiser has been extended to September 15th. We have currently raised around $7,000. Our school wide goal is $30,000. This is our MAIN fundraiser for the year. The PTA set a goal of $40.00 per child, but any amount donated is appreciated. These funds allow the school to purchase much needed instructional programs. Information regarding company matching came home in folders this past week. Your support is GREATLY appreciated!  Our class celebrates whenever we  recieve $ :)

If your child donates items for the “Texas Roundup” they can wear a hat to school next Friday, 9/15  Another reason for our class to celebrate.

We had a pep rally on Friday for our Character Building Fundraiser! The students had a great time! This will be our main fundraiser this year. Our school goal is $30,000. Every grade level has been assigned a character trait, First Grade is MISSION! We will compete throughout the year to “earn” points by demonstrating character. Information was sent home on Friday in your child’s folder. There was one left on the floor after school.  If your child didn't bring one home just let me know.  Thank you for your help and supporting our school!

Please complete the Google Form sent to you via email by Thursday of this week.  Friday is a 1/2 day of school-11:00 dismissal.  We will have Fun Friday prior to dismissal.

1st week in review/reminders
What a busy, wonderful, exciting, exhausting week :)  Here's the short list: routines and procedures, expectations, reading/math lessons, math stations, Skittles experiment, getting to know you activities, talking and doing activities related to how we were feeling this first week.  My goal is for them to build relationships with each other and with me.  That one component can open up so many opportunities to learn this year.  Here's some reminders going into next week:
    * folders need emptied each evening and then returned the next day
    * we have snack every morning.  One snack and a water is enough
*behavior charts/ticket system starts on Monday.  Your child put their behavior calendar in their daily folder                today.  Please know that a reminder has been given for the behavior before a ticket is pulled.  I have also talked         to your child about the behavior.  He/She should be able to communicate the details to you as that is a step in              taking responsibility for their actions.
*Scholastic News - a 1/2 page note asking for Scholastic News $ will come home next week.
     * Parent meeting is Tuesday 8/15 from 5-6 in the library
     * 1/2 days: 8/21 and 9/1 (we dismiss at 11:00 and no extended day is offered)
     * All kids need headphone by next week.  They will be taking the STAR Math, STAR Reading and Star Early Lit             starting next week.  Two of those they will need to follow directions from a voice on the computer.
Thanks for all the apple tree supplies that came in this week.  They will all be used and are definitely appreciated.
Will be looking for you Tuesday evening :)
Have a wonderful and restful weekend!

First day reminders

Just a few quick reminders for Monday:

  1. We have snack daily at 9:30.  Please pack your child a healthy snack and water.  We eat lunch at 11:40.
  2. Parent Night will be Tuesday, August 15th.  We go over 1st grade curriculum and procedures.  It is a night full of important information.  Please plan for at least one parent to attend.
  3. Please send your child to school with the space folder from Open House.  i will exchange it for one of the plastic prong folders you sent in.
  4. Upon arrival at school, all students will report to the gym.  First grade teachers will escort the students to class for a few days until they feel confident about coming on their own.

2nd attempt at Open House Contact Information

Thank you so much for coming tonight.  It was so nice to meet you all and put a face to your child's name.  I'm looking forward to a great year and it looks like your kiddos are too :)

Here's my 2nd attempt at the Open House contact google form.  I apologize for all the confusion.  I had to erase all the information and start over.  I would kindly ask you to fill this form out before Monday so that I have important information, especially transportation home.

This year we're using a tool to share what we're learning in class called Seesaw. Your child will have his or her own learning journal, and you can get notified when your child adds new items. It's completely private -- only you can see your child's journal outside of class.

Click on to sign up -- it takes just 30 seconds.

Once you sign up, you can download the Seesaw Family app for iPhone or Android, or access your child's journal on the web.
