Parents,
We will have Math Club tryouts on the morning of Sept. 26 at 7:00 AM in the CES Media Center. This is intended for those students who are advanced in math and enjoy problem solving. In order to make this experience more enjoyable for all students involved, we have some requirements this year.  2nd graders in math club must know multiplication facts 0-5. 3rd graders must know all facts 0-12. Students that make the club will participate in a few contest. These contest are timed and students will be expected to work under pressure in these situations. This is why it is important that all student know their facts. Timed test will be given to students trying out for the club.
Thanks,
Jamie Kiker

Connect Ed is up and running!  I have made available to you a study guide for the Unit 1 Week 1 test.  Your child can log onto connected.mcgraw-hill.com at home and click on their To-Do list.  Then, click on To-Do again, it is the green circle with a sheet of notebook paper.  Then, practice with the Unit 1 Week 1 Assignment.  This will give you a peek at what the test looks like and the stories that are used.  Their user names are the same as their sign-on user names except "1mcs" is typed in front of their user name.  For example, my user name is my first name, middle initial and last initial and my password is my first initial and my last initial and my lunch number.  So, my ConnectEd user name and password would be:  User Name:  1mcsreneepg  Password:  rg55555  All my students have used their log ons here at school.  They should have no trouble getting on at home.  Thanks for your support! We are working on Unit 1 Week 2 at school this week. They will not have access to this assignment at home.

IXL is ready for use! If you would like, students may sign on at home.  This week’s topic:  Section L We do this in class, but extra practice at home is always helpful. This is not homework, just an option.

Our students can participate in an optional assignment of mailing a Flat Person to a friend or relative who will write back and tell us about their community.  Students will add a Flat Person to a huge wall map when their letters are returned.  This is a fun activity and students love getting mail.  Again, this is OPTIONAL.  Info coming home this week.  If you are not interested in participating, just return the sheets.  Thanks!

Please purchase a subscription to Scholastic News/Science Spin for your child. The cost is $7.50 for the year. They will use SN in reading with Ms. Graham and Science Spin in Science with Mrs. Smith. Send me your check made out to Scholastic News or cash is fine, just be sure to label with your child’s name. Thank you so much!

We do have snack every day right after PE. I allow water and a healthy snack. Snacks with liquid are allowed in the lunchroom. Thanks so much for helping me keep ants out of our classroom!

Please check the school webpage and our class webpage daily!

1.     Start with a capital letter, end with an end mark.

2.     Make sense.

3.     Have a subject noun (subject)

4.     Have a verb (predicate)

Their user names are the same as their sign-on user names except "11mcs" is typed in front of their user name.  For example, my user name is my first name, middle initial and last initial and my password is my first initial and my last initial and my lunch number.  So, my ConnectEd user name and password would be:  User Name:  11mcsreneepg  Password:  rg55555  All my students have used their log ons here at school.

Please check folders daily. Remove items I send home and sign and return any forms or notes requiring your signature.

THANK YOU SO MUCH to those of you who have ordered books from Scholastic!  I will be submitting the order the end of the month.

Happy Thanksgiving! See you Monday, Nov. 28th!

We are so thankful to be your child's teachers this year.  We consider each and every one of them a blessing in our lives.  We hope you enjoy the turkey callers we made today after our Science Spin lesson.  We think the callers will provide much entertainment this long weekend.

If you have not returned the Field Trip forms, please try and return them on Monday when we return.  I posted the numbers of students who have not returned one or both of the forms on Seesaw.  Our Field Trip is Dec. 7th.  We need to get a lunch count in to Ms. Long ASAP.

See you Monday, November 28th!

As of 8/26 from Mr. Hill: PTA’s No Hassle Fundraiser- Our No Hassle Fundraiser has brought in $6618.00 so far with 125 students out of ~820 participating so we have a long way to go to reach our goal of $30,000 in order to be able to pay for instructional programs, new classroom technology and tutoring services for our students.  Columbia Elementary PTA has decided to extend our fundraiser through next Friday, Sept. 2nd and would like to offer the following school-wide incentives for students to help us reach our goal:

1.  For any donation made so far & for any donation made moving forward, students will receive a “Sit with a Friend at Lunch” pass

2.  If a total of 250 students participate by Friday 8/26, the PTA will give a FREE popsicle to every student in the school during Fun Day Friday.  3.  When we have reached a total of 400 students to participate in the fundraiser, the students will get to listen to music during lunch.

4.  When we have reached a total of 500 students to participate in the fundraiser, we will schedule a day for all students to wear hats at school.

5.  When we have reached a total of 600 students to participate in the fundraiser, we will schedule a day for all students to wear pajamas to school.

6.  When we have reached a total of $25,000 collected for our fundraiser, students will get to pie Mr.Hill in the face and duck tape Coach Fields to the wall

Ways you can help us reach our goal FASTER

·         Ask grandparents and other family members to consider contributing!

·         Ask your employer if they offer a charitable donation matching program and sign up! We very much appreciate everyone’s efforts in this so far!!  We wouldn’t be able to do this without the wonderful families we have here at Columbia Elementary School!

Reminders: Friday, September 2nd is our first Collaborative Day-This means it is a ½ day of school. We dismiss at 11:00. I will assume your child will go home their usual way unless I hear from you. Extended Day is closed on ½ days. No school Monday, September 5th. The Book Fair is coming! We visit the Book Fair as a class on Wednesday, September 14th at 12:45. If you wish for your child to make a purchase, please send money in a sealed, labeled envelope in Daily Folder. We will be reading Flat Stanley next week.  Our students can participate in an optional assignment of mailing a Flat Person to a friend or relative who will write back and tell us about their community.  Students will add a Flat Person to a huge wall map when their letters are returned.  This is a fun activity and students love getting mail.  Again, this is OPTIONAL.

THANK YOU SO MUCH to those of you who have ordered books from Scholastic!  I will be submitting the order the end of the month.

We read First Day Jitters and discussed why new students would have jitters.  (Teachers do too!)
