Columbia Elementary School Drama Club

Wizard of Oz, Jr.
Wizard of Oz, Jr.

Welcome to the Columbia Elementary Drama Club!

Drama Club is  led by our enthusiastic group of parent volunteers. We have 10-12 volunteer "staff" who work tirelessly to put on each show!

This year, our directors will be Misty Merschat and Hannah Taylor.

Ms. Heather Tucker, a Kindergarten teacher here at CES, will be the teacher sponser and school contact for the Drama Club this year.

The performance for our 2017-2018 school year will be Disney's "Alice in Wonderland Jr.”

We performed this show 5 years ago and it was a crowd favorite. Now we are bringing the show back, but this time on the BIG STAGE (our original production was on Columbia's lunchroom stage).

This school year's production will be performed on Bob Jones High School's stage on Feb 2 and Feb 3, 2018.

This will be the eighth performance by CES Drama Club which follows Disney's Mulan Jr.: The Wizard of Oz, Young Performers Edition; Peter Pan, Jr.; Willy Wonka Jr.; Seussical the Musical, Jr.; Movie Magic; and Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Jr.

Auditions were held in mid-August, and our cast for the 2017-2018 school year has been selected! To view the cast selections, please visit our facebook page, CES Drama Club.

“CAST” Parent Information and Meeting

“Cast” means that your child has an assigned, named role, including the Ensemble. Your child has the possibility of recieving  a cast role if they are in grades 3-6 and auditioned for one.

Cast will rehearse every Tuesday & Thursday after school until 4:30.

All cast members will attend EVERY rehearsal.(Please note that this is different than past years.

Rehearsals will extend to 5 pm after Christmas Break.

A mandatory parent meeting will be held for those earning a place in cast on Aug 29 at 6pm.

Tech week will be Jan 29-Feb 1 and will require nightly rehearsals at Bob Jones.

This is the week we rehearse on stage and run through the show with all props, costumes, lighting, and set changes.

ALL Rehearsals are mandatory and attendance is strictly enforced.

Those students in grades 3-6 who audition for cast but don't receive an assigned role may join our chorus without re-auditioning. A spot for indicating if your child is interested in chorus should she/he not be selected for cast, is on the audition form.

CHORUS AUDITIONS and Information

Practice is every Wednesday after school until 4pm, beginning October 25th.

Chorus will be performing in the Prologue and Closing scenes only. They will remain in a group within the audience during the duration of the performance.

Chorus auditions are open to ALL grade levels (K-6th).

These auditions are for students in grades 3-6 who do not want to audition for a cast roll, as well as those in grades K-2. (As previously mentioned, if a 3rd-6th grade student auditioned for a cast role and did not get one, they do not need to audition again to be in chorus).

All who audition for chorus and hand in appropriate paperwork on time, will be accepted.

Chorus auditions will be held on Wednesday, October 18th until 4pm and are much more simple than cast auditions.
-Chorus auditions will be in groups.
-No monologue or song needs to be prepared ahead of time.
A sign up link for Chorus auditions with more details will be posted in early September!

~~ Check back here in September for the Chorus Auditoin Sign Up Link!~~

CARLINE pick-up:Now in Front of the School

*Please be early/on-time to pick your child up from their practice. We encourage carpools as many students live within the same neighborhoods.

Tuesday/Thursday CAST -- 4:30 in front of the school.

Wednesday Chorus- 4:00 in front of the school.

Please drive to the FRONT of the building. This pickup location is different from past years.

*We cannot allow any front door walkers after rehearsals, unless they are accompanied by a parent, so please arrange pickup.
The Columbia Drama Club, and the magnitude of our performances, highly depend on support from our community.

We will have several fundraising opportunities this year including, at a minimum, the following:

- Chick-fil-A Calendars (these make excellent stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, and it’s always good to keep one on your fridge!)
- Program Ads in our performance programs (consider not only purchasing one, but getting extended family to, as well!)

More information will go home with cast and chorus once rehearsals start.

Parent volunteers are a necessity, as they are vital to a successful show and a memorable time for your child!
Whether you can volunteer a day, a week, spur of the moment, or routinely, please share your time and talents!

We have the daily need of running lines with students, enforcing learned blocking and dialect, and crowd control.
There are also the areas of sewing, painting, carpentry, musical skills, student management, paper organization, shopping.... you name it!

We understand the need for flexibility in volunteering, so please don’t let the fact that you might not be able to commit to a lengthy time keep you from helping. Even ONE DAY can make a huge difference!

In order to be successful we can use help in all areas! You can contact us at CESDramaClub@gmail.com if you have any questions.
CES Drama Club will have opportunities throughout the school year to perform at local venues to promote our show.

Events we may participate in are the Madison Street Festival, Madison Christmas Parade, PTA night, a school board meeting, etc..

*Other events may be scheduled.
*More information will be sent home closer to these events.
